ABOUT US

This is the alumni association of OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY formerly known as UNIVERSITY OF IFE yet typically called GREAT IFE. It is a non-profit, tax-exempt alumni association. The association is inspired by the need for GREAT IFE graduands in the diaspora, particularly in the UNITED KINGDOM. To pull together so as to be able to achieve a common goal of lifting, assisting, encouraging, directing, motivating and mentoring one another.

We wholeheartedly invite all GREAT IFE alumni in the UNITED KINGDOM to identify with us in our aim of contributing our quota to the development of our Alma Mata and assisting ourselves in any and every legal and possible way that we can. The association was officially inaugurated in London, United Kingdom on Saturday 8th of May, 2008 at the Clarendon hotel, London. It is open to all graduates and associates of the university.

Our History

Founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria, led by late chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, and was renamed Obafemi Awolowo University on 12 May 1987 in honour of Chief Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987)
